Golly, I've been deaf all my life, I don't know how I'd act if I opted for stem cell implants and they succeeded...some sounds I may like, like the nightingale songs or cicada wings' beating, but not others... like fartin' Buddhas in a bathtub? :P

Candy ..

Yup! At least the technology will improve and perhaps one day, the implants/devices will not be so invasive. Mac's article on the hair cells is interesting, too.

Slow days are okay, actually. It is nice to be bored for once.

LOL yeah one day we all will have the option to hear or choose not to hear!

I have read up a lot about Atoh1, in fact, I believe I did blog about it once. From what I understand, real cure is maybe about 20 years away or so (hopefully soon!)

I believe, and that is just my view, that not all deaf/hoh people will take advantage of it. I believe that the majority will. I believe that deaf culture will be a very very small one. Which is kind of scary for those who refuse the cure because services might be reduced in light of the fact that a cure is available. That is, unless the cure is not for everyone. We don't know, at this point.

But, I definitely will go for it if it will work for me. It's a no brainer! But, come to think of it, many deaf will have to go through intensive AVT training to be able to understand and use speech.

And, for Seniors who opt for C.I., yeah, makes sense. Hey, if they need a hip replacement, why not get an ear replacement while they're at it!

I like your slow day posts! :)
