Tonight! Tonight!
Denver – Good afternoon, everybody! I hope your week went well and your weekend is going swimmingly smooth! Tonight is a night of BIG news events happening! Something BIG will become BIG news tomorrow! People will forget how BIG the BIG news was by Tuesday! Barbara Walters may even give an eulogy – at her own funeral next Saturday!
I am not kidding you!
One of the BIG news going around the blogosphere is the upcoming Earth Hour taking place tonight at 8:00 PM local time. That means that if you are eating at a fancy restaurant tonight at 7:59 PM, you will immediately be asked by restaurant staff to close your eyes because Hillary Clinton’s political boat is rapidly sinking!
So, turn everything off in your homes tonight for an hour. You might save a few pretty pennies along the way.
To be honest with all ya’ll, I’m going to unplug all the lights and electrical appliances in my house tonight for an hour. And after doing that, I am also going to catch tonight’s mixed martial arts (MMA) super-fight between Frank Shamrock and Cung Le.
I am going to do that by hooking up my TV and satellite recorder to my portable, electrical power generator (through a power-surge protector, of course), which has been recharging since very early this morning. So, while all ya’ll are enjoying “lights-out” for an hour or so, I will be watching other people go “lights-out” on TV!
HaHa!
Anyway, click the highlighted text to read more about Earth Day.
To read a couple articles about tonight’s Showtime (ppv) Strikeforce/EliteXC card, click the highlighted links.
I have to go now – the sun is out and the day looks to be much warmer than yesterday, so I’m going skateboarding. Have a great and safe Earth Day tonight in conserving your wallets and reducing light-pollution. And enjoy the fights, too.
Be good .. or be good at it.

Tonight my husband will be turning the lights off like he does every night! I’d be like WTF?! So, I’d turn it back on, he’d walk by later on, turning it off, and it would just continue on and on without us saying one word. Yup, we have EARTH DAY every night in my home! So, tonight, I will not turn it back on and I’m sure he’s going to have this BIG smile thinking he’d won won this silent light fight.
But, he’ll be surpised, it’s only gonna last for one hour! haha!
Tonight will be his night
to conserve engery with the world
Tonight I will give up the fight
to preserve the fire in this girl.
If only just for one hour
that, I can do without much ado
If only he’d see that his power
to conserve doesn’t make me woo
I am an ardent environmentalist myself. I always preach what I practice for the excellent stewardship of the real fragile Mother Earth. I am always doing it everyday throughout my adolscent years to the adulthood.
I ever am not bothered to get in the hype for the “Earth Hours” which the Americans usually consume 3/4 of the world’s artifical energy consumption as compared to the rest of the world for 30 years lately. The real troubling and concerned issue about China and Indian’s billion population use up artifical energy putting the real strains on the Mother Earth and the universe altogther.
Real cool about writing like “Hillary’s political boat is rapidly sinking”. I did not worry about the Democratic bickerings at all since we could see how the real stupidity about our political system.
I am totally agree with Hillary and Bill to tell the Democrats ‘RELAX” and let the entire race to be done til the finish line.
I still hope for Ralph Nader to shake down the political duoply real good unless Mike Bloomberg and Chuck Hagel jump in. That’s what we really most is the multi-political parties in our national politics.

Please educate us on your generator. As you might expect here on the Coast, we often have long power outages. The most recent one was 5 days long. (We had a hurricane). We have a gas fireplace and cooked on our camp stove, but a generator would be nice!
Lantana
Hi Lantana,
I have the same problem here, though I don’t live on the coast. My electricity went out last winter for seven days. Big Storm that took out most of the Seattle area and my town was hit very hard indeed. Like you, I have a wood stove I can cook on, and it can heat half the house if we shut the other half off. It’s sort of like living in a little cabin when that happnens. I always keep tons of candles on hand for light. We have a gas water heater so are lucky to have warm water when the power goes off. Some neighbors have well water, and then they can’t even flush their toilets since the pump is also electric. I’m happy not to have a well.
I didn’t celebrate this Earth Day. I forgot, even though I knew about it. Maybe I’ll just go to bed an hour earlier tonight.
A
men!
I taught my friends and my kids about Earth hour!! We did our part here!
deafk
opps,
i mean, Amen.
Kim, I think we shared the same storm. I live near Astoria. You had hot water because of your *gas* hotwater tank?? We have a gas hotwater tank also, but guess what? It has an ELECTRIC fan that is necessary for it to operate. Doesn’t make sense, does it?
That is an EXCELLENT idea to go to bed an hour early instead of shutting everything down for an hour. Not many people would think of that one! But it’s Saturday night, bummer. I will make up for my neglect by buying a new Prius! Like Geo’s.
I am still waiting for this guy to give us an education on his generator. We have two floors here, does that mean we have to have two generators? I was raised on an All Jersey dairy farm and we went WEEKS without power back in those days and my dad had to milk the cows by hand!! But I was young then and thought everything was a big adventure.
Lantana
Lantana ..
My generator is propelled by homicidal Squirrels.
Here’s a suggestion for a portable electrical generator.
Paotie
Lantana,
I don’t have a generator, but I know several people who do. The generator will not power everything in the house, but you don’t need two for two separate floors, I don’t think? You just need to decide what you’re going to run off it and when. Also they are loud which may not bother you, but the low tone motor sound bothers me.
My hot water heater doesn’t have an electric fan. We had hot water the entire seven days. Our power goes out often cuz we live in a heavily wooded area, and trees fall on power stations or lines even in mild storms.
I didn’t go to bed early after all. I’ll just stay in bed longer tomorrow morning.
I LOVE Astoria! Nice area. We have hung out around there quite a bit in the past.
Lantana,
We live along the coastal area in NC where we get a beating during hurricane season. Few homes install a real generator that cost a few thousand bucks, and another thousand for the electrician to hook it up to your house. This would be one that would light most of your house, provide AC, and come on automatically, with natural or LP gas feed.
You also don’t want to run a little generator where combustion fumes will leak into the home and asphyxiate you. Keep it out of the garage or carport. People are killed every major power outage by carbon monoxide.
The small generators that you see at Lowe’s and Homer are not meant for computers, and other electronics, or for running much of a home system like AC, electric heat, cooking, etc.
Earth Hour……
If Al Gore is a President of USA, he would have made an announcement and telling the nation that he is recognized the Earth Hour.
You know, he’s the environmentalist.
I’d have to reprimand Prexy Bush for not recognizing the Earth Hour! He did not care about the conservation of energy. What a shame.
Hi Seek Grandma — Lantana! Congratulations for being a Seekie Grandma! There you go, gal!
BTW, we had a ball at Seek Geo’s blog. You for Red Sox….you and the Red Sox will have to live with a scar……Curse for over 85 years! So does the Yankees! Go and visit Seek Geo’s blog. Misha got mad at me! A big wink to Misha. Hee, haw, hee, haw. We had a ball!
The Earth Hour is a bunch of baloneys. “We must save the world from the horrible evil event known as climate change! Turn off everything! Throw away the keys to your vehicles! The weather gone crazy! The sea levels are rising! Animals are escaping! Earth is going flat! Oh, my God, we’re so doomed!”
Sheesh. We need to pipe down those environuts and global warming-alarmists and learn to live and adapt with the changes by innovating and improvising ourselves without resorting to draconian political means to control our lives and kill people in the process.
Wanna see the worst example of an environut/gw-alarmist taking anything from the Goracle at face value, like a Chinese sycophant agreeing everything that Mao said? See here.
Vegetarianism is good for the earth, and your body, and it also keeps farmers employed. Much of the crops they currently grow feed cattle and other farm animals, who eat so much more than humans. We could feed people millions of people utilizing the same croplands if everyone stopped eating meat.
Me for the Red Sox? I don’t do sports much, I follow what my adult children prefer. Of course we have to honor our Northwest teams.
I have a grandson who graduated from WOU on a baseball scholarship, he was a pitcher. He has a degree now in Criminal Justice and works in Phoenix with toubled youth. 60 “blocks” of 20 teenagers each block. I think they would have turned out better without all the hormones in their meat! And without the violence they have been subjected to all of their lives.
Lantana
Kim, yup… I read that the cattle was one of the contributing factors for greenhouse effect. Even if we all became vegetarians, it would not make any difference… it is just one of the earth’s cycles…
My son declared he wanted to become a vegetarian but he is fussy about food he eats… he won’t eat beans, rice, tofu, etc.! Mostly pasta and cheese and a few vegetables? Oh please… I have many awesome vegetarian cookbooks but they don’t appeal to youth’s palate…hmmm…
kim, vegetarianism may be good for some people but it’s not always a must for everybody. To suggest that people should eating meats and eat only vegetables is just asking for inconvenience, anger and annoyance from people who actually make their livings raising cows, bulls, chickens, sheep, etc. and from people who actually hunt animals for the meats in order to feed their tribes, such as the African bushmen who still hunt down African deers for its meats and other things. You cannot get rid of something that has gave mankind something to eat from for a couple million years.
Do you know the proteins in all of the meats coming from these animals actually came from the vegetables and plants that the animals ate and digested everyday? Do you know it was the proteins in the meats that gave mankind the ability to intellectualize, to expand its mind horizontally and vertically, to dream and to imagine through successive countless generations? Without the proteins from the meats, mankind would still be in a late hominid stage akin to that of orangutans and chimpanzees today.
I’m not against vegetarianism but I’m not too crazy about people who insist we should stop eating meats and eat only vegetables. That’s just asking ourselves to be de-evolved, intelligence-wise. I like my steak medium well and I cannot get enough of lipsmacking-delicious prime rib or chicken wellington. Of course, baked potato or hot steamed mixed vegetables would be lovely in addition to that.
Karen, I’m concerned about your boy but he is likely to have an eating disorder and could become an anorexic. Although it’s less common in boys but there have been cases of boys refusing to eat certain kind of foods, like what you had said about your son’s dietary intakes, and becoming anorexic. He may have been improperly influenced or misinformed about the benefits of vegetarianism or he may be using the excuse of being a vegetarian to avoid issues that you may not be aware of. Like this website about boys being anorexic or bulimic. ABCNews did a report on that. Hope you help out your son before it may get worse.
President Bush doesn’t care about the environment? Please. Educate yourself, you just made a fool out of yourself.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/house.asp
Rob,
It seems like you may be over-reacting to my comments. I never said vegetarianism is a “MUST” for everyone, and I’m certainly not insistant. I simply brought up an energy conserving alternative. And yes, I’m aware of how animals become meat by eating vegetables.
But just for the record, there’s no scientific evidence that people who stop eating meat “de-evolve.” A person can get enough protein without eating meat.
Go ahead and eat meat. Clog your arteries with animal fat. No one’s stopping you.
Well, well, well…..
I researched all the networks and none of them mentioned the recognition of the earth hour! Even none of the politicians who should have shown up to represent the environment are in the newspapers and TV. No pictures of the politicians that showed up the earth hour as well.
Nevertheless, politicians must be shunned from the earth hour.
Therefore, President Bush was not there to represent the earth hour.
We’ll see what happens on the earth day…..continuing with the part 2.
I think the liberals are more in tune with Earthly concerns than the conservatives. ANd most politicians are Conservatives even the ones that claim to be liberals!
Make a note of that White Ghost. No April Fools day joke!
I do my part but it has nothing to do with lights.
I recycle.
and I tend the earth to grow my own vegetables. At least, I try to!
We’ve had a hard winter here and by this time of the year I should be out there getting my garden ready but we had snow a few days ago and this week we have possible rain/snow. Late planting season for us midwesterners!
Gives me more time to figure out what I want to plant this year. I’d like to try something different. One year I grew tomatillos and then the year later when I didn’t plant it, it grew anyway! and grew wild! You can make green salasa with that and it’s a nice different taste than regular salsa.
Last year I planted a lot of sunflowers and they’re awesome..grew almost like a tree. Actually it’s still out there and it does look like a baby tree! I actually grew enough to feed a whole city full of squirrels. Cute things!
Rats! Shame on you!
You were supposed to blog on the April’s Fool Day!
Play it nice and let’s say “Happy Fool’s Day!”
We’d love to hear from you with all the pranks on this fool day!
You sucker!
Ha, ha, ha, hee, hee, hee.
kim, that’s alright. You’re not the first vegetarian I know through online or in person but there are some vegetarians out there who are just a bit more militant about vegetarianism, sometimes going too far or overzealous in some cases. I’ll say they are not exactly the brightest bulbs anywhere.
Being a vegetarian is a matter of personal lifestyle choice, not something to collectively demand everyone to abandon eating meats and eat only vegetables. If it is good for you to be healthy and maintain a healthy dietary habit, great. I eat a lot of vegetables, hot and cold daily but, however, I find eating only vegetables daily terribly boring and pretty tiresome (tried that for less than a week). I think, for the most part, vegetarianism is a reaction to a misguided perception about how animals are slaughtered for its meats by the factories. I have actually seen cows being slaughtered, chopped and processed for its meats but it doesn’t really affect me any seriously enough to stop eating meats. The problem is more to do with how animals are processed and slaughtered in such inhumane manners, but we’re dealing with time-honored practices that dated back to the earliest civilizations. It’s not limited to this country, but in many other countries.
You’re right there’s no evidence about de-evolving due to lack of proteins. In fact, there haven’t been any study on it, but it’s a theory proposed by some scientists conducting research on protein sequences and the correlation of meat-eating habits and intelligent developments based on data from fossilized skulls of hominid ancestors. I still have a Science magazine edition few years old, that’s all about ancient hominids but I can’t find it somewhere.
As for clogging arteries, believe it or not, it is not caused by animal fats but the deficient lack of Vitamin C in your body. Now go eat your vegetables, young lady!
Candy: I think the liberals are more in tune with Earthly concerns than the conservatives. ANd most politicians are Conservatives even the ones that claim to be liberals!
Make a note of that White Ghost. No April Fools day joke!
Pleeze! That’s crap-shoot. I’m a conservative and I care about the environment (and I recycle for years, too!). Liberals, on the other hand, … “tune in with Earthy concerns?” When pigs fly, I might agree with you on that!
haha Rob, Most liberals do “tune in with Earthly concerns” because most liberals are hippies.
But, yeah you’re probably right..doesn’t matter. Both conservatives and liberals are just as bad and good as anyone.
And ditcha know that pigs really do fly?!
Candy:
That’s true.
Time has changed.
Remember the Hell’s Angels? When I was little, I’ve always thought that the infamous motorcycle group named Hell’s Angels were bad people.
Time has changed.
Today there are many people joining many new motorcycle groups that are good and bad. Most of them are liberals.
I *think* it was from the vietnam-era people….thanks to them for educating and respecting us and the USA.
