Colorado Springs – A published a report in Business Week (October 8 Edition) outlines the possibility that Google might enter the cellphone industry. Google has shown interest in wireless capabilities for some time now and is focusing on providing free cellphones to consumers. This projected entrance of Google into the cellphone would mark a new era of cellphone usage, services and even customization.

Imagine flying to Las Vegas, and needing a hotel reservation; your Google cellphone would send you ad-based content specific to your needs. Need a room fast and cheap? Let your cellphone help you find it with Internet capabilities and video graphics. Want to know where a steakhouse is on the way to your hotel? Let the Google phone do it for you. Need to know what discounts Home Depot is offering while you consider lawn preparations for the winter months? Let Google’s phone tell you.

Maybe one day, the necessary evil of horrible, never-ending cellphone contracts will give way to free, ad-based cellphones that do everything else a laptop does. Well, almost.

Have a fantastic weekend of college football.

:)

Colorado Springs – Real men wear pink. That’s the message members of the New Mexico State University football team is telling everyone. And it’s not a trick to fool the unsuspecting opponent, Arkansas Pine-Bluff, either before their game on Saturday; they’re wearing pink to promote breast cancer awareness and research efforts.

Aggies receiver, Chris Williams said:

We are tough enough to wear pink. It’s a very serious disease and anything we can do to help find a cure is a plus.

Head coach Hal Mumm’s wife, June, underwent a lumpectomy, a mastectomy and months of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1996. The fundraising push is called NMSU Aggies are Tough Enough to Wear Pink.

Coaches will also wear pink shirts, and fans are encouraged to wear pink as well. The field has also been painted to include two large pink ribbons.

In the meantime, the players seem to be enjoying the pink fuss and taking it in stride as Williams stated:

We are going to wear the pink socks and a few of us have pink towels we are getting ready. We are just going to have fun with it.

June Mumme is one of four honorary chairwomen for the event – each a breast cancer survivor. The others are Magellia Boston, wife of New Mexico State athletics director McKinley Boston; Laura Conniff, the university’s Board of Regents chairwoman; and Pat Sisbarro, vice president of a Las Cruces automobile dealership

The Pink Bowl is a derivation of many Major League Baseball players who have used pink bats during games to promote breast cancer awareness on Mother’s Day.

New Mexico State is 2-2 after losing to Auburn last week. Arkansas Pine-Bluff, 1-3, lost last weekend to Southern Illinois.

Anyway, if you’re a real man, wear pink tomorrow (Saturday). I know I will. I’m an Aggie alum.

Go Aggies!

:)
